Sorry about the delay guys, I've been battling bronchitis for a few days now. Anyway, on with the story.
Devo and his wife Kelly moved in across the street back in May of last year. Devo was the service member and his wife stayed at home most of the time. Devo was 20, maybe 5'7 and weighed about 125 (or that's what he said anyway). He was hands down the skinniest man I have every seen. Devo had not been in the military very long and had married Kelly just before moving here. While Devo was at work, Kelly would wander from neighbor to neighbor finding out everyone's business. My normal neighbor (N.N.) was a stay-at-home-mom, and would often be seen outside smoking. Apparently if you step foot outside your house here, it's a giant invitation for everyone to come talk to you. Kelly would come over often to talk to my neighbor, and even began using her for her washer and dryer. My neighbor was on friendly terms with them, but it was nothing more than an acquaintance level.
Kelly and Devo lived beside a young white couple that had a 1 year old child and one on the way. One thing you have to understand about a good portion of military families: the men are usually thin and the women are HUGE. [Example: Kelly's neighbor was so large that you could not tell that she was even pregnant. I actually received one of their packages by accident once. I called the number on the box and she came outside to meet me. We met in the middle of the road, and I had trouble carrying the box that far. When I handed it off to her, she gave me a weird look. Two weeks later, I saw the "Welcome Home Baby" signs all over her front door. Awkward.] Any how, Kelly began hanging out with her preggo neighbor all the time. It started out just helping her prepare for the baby, but it soon progressed to her being there almost constantly when the baby was born in late July.
In August, Devo failed his drug test. According to him, he pissed hot for cocaine. So, the military gave him an article 15, and he was being kicked out. It was also around this time that the neighbors that Kelly had been helping out decided to move off base. Naturally, she gathered up her shit and moved in with them to become an unpaid live-in nanny. Devo told N.N and I about all of this one evening on his way back from C.W's house. I believe he even referred to his wife acting like the black slave for the while people. Also, he told us that the guy who lived beside him was dealing pot and coke while his wife was the service member--which I had already figured out. It doesn't take a genius to notice at least 7 different cars pull up to the same house and only stay 5 minutes or less.
Devo continued living in the empty house after his wife left. Since he did not own a car (which there is no excuse for anyone in the military to not own a vehicle) he was always bumming rides off people. He began staying at the house less and less. When he'd randomly pop back up, he'd always bum a smoke of N.N. and continue telling her about his trashy life style. He was on random details at work until he got out of the military;however, he stopped showing up to those. So he was crashing with friends here and there, and doing drugs all the time.
In October, Devo texts N.N. out of the blue wanting to buy their car. First, it was really creepy considering she had never given him her number, but he said he got it from his wife. Second, N.N. had only mentioned selling the car once back in August, and even then she wasn't sure. She tried to get him off her back about it by telling him that they had not decided to sell it but she'd tell them if they did. A few days later, he began calling her (she didn't answer) early in the morning, texting her repeatedly wanting to come "hang" because he was "bored", and knocking on her door all the time. Naturally, N.N. began to get really freaked out by it. To the point where she would only go out back to smoke, not answer her calls, and keep her windows closed. It started to seem like he was stalking her, and it was only when he knew her husband wasn't home. One morning, I happened to be outside talking to my Dad on the phone when Devo came up to knock on N.N's door. I decided to confront him about it.
SB: I don't think she's home.
Devo: Yeah she is, I saw her out here earlier.
SB: Well, maybe she's laying down with the baby. Besides, you are being very inappropriate right now.
Devo: What? I just wanted a cig.
SB: It's inappropriate for you to be bothering her in the middle of the day while her husband is gone. Just leave her alone.
It was at this point Devo became very awkward and went back to his house. He never bothered N.N. again. I probably should have been nervous about confronting him, but I could take his scrawny ass on. I am not going to be afraid of a man that has a smaller waist than I do.
After that, Devo kind of disappeared. Eventually new people moved in, but they haven't shown their crazy yet.
